Future PathwaysYear 11 Training/ Extended Work Experience PlacementsIn Year 11 the students are aged 15-16 and consequently this is their last year in compulsory education. The placements are intended to provide a progressive programme of training and learning so that the students further develop their Key Skills and achieve some job competencies. The Training Placement programme starts in September and will involve students spending a day a week on placement (usually Fridays) for a minimum of 120 weeks. At the end of that period the student, in consultation with the Training Placement provider and school tutor will decide whether to continue in the same placement after Christmas or change to try a different vocational area. During the summer term of Year 10 students will be given a lot of support from their tutor as they choose their Training Placement. Experience shows that the right placement can be very motivating for a student and encourage them to make a position transition at 16 - which is one of the aims of Future Pathways. The following are points which have all been agreed with the schools on the programme: Students will be properly briefed in school prior to taking part in the Training Placements e.g. behaviour, attendance, travel arrangements etc. Students will be made aware that whilst the aim of the Training Placements is to introduce them to a vocational area, the focus is for them to develop the general skills they will need if they are to successfully progress into training, employment or further education as well as some specifically vocational skills. Students may not get the Training Placement they requested. There will be a number of reasons why we cannot always provide their first choice of placement. staff from the schools or from the Work Experience Alliance will visit the students on the Training Placement on a regular basis. It is important that students know the schools take the placements seriously and we hope you appreciate the support that can be provided by teachers visiting. Training Placement datesThe dates of the training placements are as follows. Please note that there will be no placements during school holidays, or on the last Friday of the Autumn Term. Please could you let WEXA know Lorraine Mckenzie( tel: 0116 240 7250 ) if there are any dates which may be a problem for your organisation as soon as you can and we will make sure the schools make alternative arrangements for the students. The dates given below are for the Friday of each week but some placements may take place on a different day in the same week .
